Dinas Powys U19 Youth team go top of the Welsh Youth East League with a win at Cwmbran Celtic last Sunday. Sun 22nd Jan 2012 - Cwmbran Celtic Youth 3 Dinas Powys 6 The Under 19s produced an excellent attacking display to beat last seasons league champions. The first 10 minutes saw quite an even game, with both sides creating a few half chances. The Dinas lads were playing up the slope and the back four of Hopkins, Bruce, Davies and Lazarou were dealing well with a more direct Cwmbran team. Dinas broke the deadlock when Briscombe broke into the box and was brought down by a Cwmbran defender, Briscombe stepped up to make it 1-0. Cwmbran hit back within a minute when a cross from the left beat the Dinas defence and allowed a Cwmbran player to tap home. The Dinas boys continued to play they're passing football and forced several corners, the pressure eventually told and Rhys Davies headed home. With only seconds to half-time Cwmbran put another long ball over the top, which found a forward who looked at least 2 yards off-side, but to everyones’ amazement the linesman didn't flag and Cwmbran had equalised. HT 2-2 Dinas Played down the slope in the second half and the midfield of Parsons, Ball, Cleary and Driscoll were dominating, with Driscoll on the left putting some quality crosses into the box. Dinas scored 4 quick goals from Parsons, Cleary, Driscoll, a superb individual effort, and Dimitri Fallas to kill off the game. To their credit Cwmbran kept battling until the end and were rewarded with a very dubious penalty, to make the final score 6-3. A special mention goes to keeper Kieron Sharratt, who played through a hip injury and made some great saves. Man of the match goes to Joe Briscombe who showed not just the talent but the work rate and commitment that will make him a regular 1st team player in the near future. Welsh League Youth Sun 6th Nov 2011 - Dinas Powys Under 19’s 7 Barry Town Under 19’s 1 After a slow start to the Season, The Dinas Powys Youth squad are beginning to show the potential they undoubtedly have and this game, (Following on from last Sunday’s 3-1 victory at Monmouth), again highlighted the improved commitment levels. The Dinas lads started the game well putting pressure on a young Barry Town team, and forcing the opposition to try to play football in their own half. Barry battled well for 10 minutes but Dinas took the lead when centre forward Dimitri Fallas opened his account with a cool finish into the bottom corner. Dinas then scored 2 more quick goals through a Mike Lazarou header and a great lob from Joel Hopkins. Barry continued to battle but the Dinas Central midfield pair of Connor Parsons and Elliott Ball were dominant against their younger opposition. Two more goals by Fallas before half-time saw Dinas go into the break 5-0. Dinas made 3 changes at half-time with Mitchell Brownhill, Josh Corlette and Joe Briscombe entering the fray. The young Barry team battled well again in the second period and dominated possession at times but Dinas always looked to have a goal in them and Joe Briscombe scored the 6th from the penalty spot after a late challenge in the Barry box. The Dinas defence of Brownhill, Latner, Lazarou and R Hopkins were kept much busier in the 2nd half and when a Barry shot was pushed away by keeper Moyles, it fell to a Barry player to slot the ball home, (A goal they deserved for their 2nd half performance). The Dinas lads however got a seventh goal, (The fourth for Fallas!), to complete a satisfactory days work. A special mention goes to Dimitri Fallas for scoring 4 goals on the day and making his 1st team debut the previous day against local rivals Ely Rangers. Welsh League Youth Sun 11th Sept 2011 - Dinas Powys Under 19s 7 Caldicot Under 19s 4 Dinas Powys went into the 1st game of the league season with a number of players missing through injury, (As has been the case throughout pre-season), but were pleased to have team captain Rhys Davies back available and several new faces who have made the step-up from the under 18s league. The home team started the game well and were 2 up within 10 minutes, with goals from Nicky Bruce and Mike Lazarou, (both coming from free-kicks). Against the run of play Caldicot pulled a goal back when a mix up between the Dinas back line and stand in keeper Ed Halls resulted in a Caldicot player tapping the ball home into an empty net. After that set-back the Dinas lads continued their dominance with some good passing and movement throughout the half and added further goals from Zak Cleary x2, Joe Briscombe (Pen) and another set-piece goal from Mike Lazarou. HT 6-1 The Management made 3 changes at half time, taking off Rhys Davies, Joe Briscombe and Callum Driscoll and this resulted in what can only be described as a disastrous 2nd half performance. The Caldicot Central midfield pair took control of the centre of the park and the Dinas lads began making uncharacteristically poor decisions. The home team seemed to be unable to keep hold of any possession and allowed Caldicot to break up play in dangerous area’s of the pitch – these poor decisions allowed Caldicot to score another goal 10 minutes into the 2nd half. The Dinas lads eventually got a goal late in the 2nd half, which was well finished by Nicky Jones but Caldicot finished the strongest with 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to take the score to 7-4. This was a very poor performance by the Dinas lads and some attitudes need to change dramatically if this group are to achieve the targets set out for the season ahead. Back to Top
