Managers and Coaches
As Junior Section Chairman and on behalf of Dinas Powys F.C. Management Committee I would like to thank all managers and coaches for their time and commitment to delivering structured coaching in an enjoyable and safe environment.
Last season we managed a change of the appointed Welfare Officer with Sue Marks having to step down due to ongoing family commitments. The hand over was managed in a staged approach with Jennifer now carrying out the role in its entirety.
The role of Welfare Officer is to understand the needs of players, parents and coaches/managers and to give advice and support when required and in this role Jennifer has proved to be more than competent.
This season we have continued to provide and fund training to all junior section managers/coaches via the FAW Trust training program and have increased the coaching standards throughout the section with managers/coaches attending and passing courses as listed:
Level 1
· F.A.W Leaders Award - 3 coaches
· First Aid for Football awareness Award - 15 coaches
· McDonalds Coaching Workshops - 5 coaches
Level 2
· FAW/UEFA ‘C’ Certificate - 3 coaches
· FAW/UEFA ‘C’ Certificate GK - 1 coaches
Note
Level 1 courses are held in the evenings (minimum of four hours) or on Sundays (leaders award) normally over two weeks with a minimum attendance of twelve hours. This is on top of the time already committed to running a team.
Level 2 Goal Keepers ‘C’ Certificate require a minimum of three days at eight hours per day and the outfield ‘C’ Certificate having a minimum of six days at eight hours per day.
Notable Achievements
As part of our goal of quality and excellence in sport we have maintained our club accreditation standard working closely with the area Football Development officer Grant Kalahar. As a club we have actively supported the expansion of football for girls with two of our section managers Andrew Davies as imitative organizer and Gino Esposito worked closely with Grant (FAW Trust) setting up a Girls turn up and play to increase the awareness and availability of girls football in the area.
Andrew is also heading up for Grant and the FAW Trust a priority club Goalkeeper specific training held at Bryn Y Don on Monday evenings. This has led to the FAW part sponsoring Andrew on an FAW/UEFA ‘B’ Certificate for the forthcoming season.
We are also actively supporting the Vale Football Academy, which is set up and run by The FAW Trust with 3 of our ‘C’ licensed coaches Andrew Davies, Giles Simpson and Kelvin Thomas appointed as age band organizers.
Our achievements on the field were the most rewarding with:
Junior Boys - Vale of Glamorgan League, the Under 14’s and U15A’s finishing as league and League Cup Winners completing a double/double for the club
Junior Girls – South Wales Girls League, The U18’s won their league, and completed their progression through the junior section with a number of the girls having started with the club at mini football level. To emulate the Clubman tradition in the boys section and the annual shield presented to a player in the U16/17 team, we felt that an annual shield should be presented to the oldest age team each year in the girls section. It was proposed that a shield should be provided and on a request to Frank Martin and family we were pleased to present this year The Frank Martin Shield to a player in the girls section ‘’who has been with the Club from the beginning of her football career and has shown qualities expected of her throughout’’
