U10 Girls selected for SWGL Representative Team.
Congratulations to Chloe Moggridge, Seren Rose and Olivia Townsend who recently had trials and have been selected to represent the South Wales Girls League Representative Squad. A total of 47 girls from a range of clubs attended the trials held at Mountain Ash on Saturday 14th January in bitterly cold conditions. The girls have been selected in the Squad consisting of 24 players and will have monthly training sessions and play matches against other regional teams.

Rebecca Egerstrom has been selected to represent Wales in the U16 Wales National Development Squad and has been invited to the Training Camp run this month at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

With the temperature just above zero Dinas Powys mini's beat the weather to play a round robin amongst each other at Leckwith Stadium astro pitch on saturday.

All mini and jnr football in the Vale and Cardiff were hit by the weather this weekend but the mini section of Dinas  descended on Leckwith in an army of Red and Black.

The players had an hour of round robin games showing off their skills in front of their parents, who were thankful the sun was out.

Big thank you to the Chairman for sorted the venue out at short notice and all the coaches who helped it run smoothly on the morning.

The death has been announced of Alan Brown.
Alan, a former teacher, died recently after a long battle against illness, he was involved with the Junior Club and both his sons played for the Club.
DPFC - 03/12/2012
Dinas Powys Football Club is deeply saddened by the death of Phil Coles, a coach with our under 13 B team.

Like many of our coaches Phil began his involvement with Dinas Powys FC enjoying watching his son Alex play mini football. His help was much appreciated and as he became more involved in coaching  he passed on his experience from many years  playing for Cogan.

The boys appreciated and benefited from Phil’s gentle style and encouragement. Throughout his illness he continued to make the effort to watch the boys on a Saturday morning and his presence will be deeply missed. He will be fondly remembered as the most laid back referee in the league!

Phil’s funeral will take place at St Peters in Dinas Powys at 12.15 on 9th December 2011.

Ray Davies - 02/12/2012
Dinas Powys Wolves FC recently held their annual penalty competition with over 30 kids taking part at Barry Sports Centre.

The level of penalties taken were a very high standard from all taking part. Young Owen who has been with the club for a number of years now managed an impressive 100% record taking the trophy for 2011-12 season.

Well done Owen from all of the coaches and players, and a big thanks to the keepers Jack and Connor who pulled off some great saves.

Lee Saunders - 30/10/2011
Dinas Powys FC recently held a two day soccer school for year 2-6's at the Murch football pitch.

The schools were attended by over 60 children throughout the two days. The experience for one or two were the first they have had of football.

All the players enjoyed fun and games all day with a mini world cup and champions league in the afternoon.

A big thank you to all Jan, Charmaine and Jo with all the work behind the scenes and all the coaches who gave up their time and effort on both days.

Dinas Powys will look to be staging more camps in the new year as the attendances are growing by each one.
The coaches were Adam Fowler, Dan Jose, David Parkes, and Lee Saunders.

Managers and Coaches

As Junior Section Chairman and on behalf of Dinas Powys F.C. Management Committee I would like to thank all managers and coaches for their time and commitment to delivering structured coaching in an enjoyable and safe environment.
Last season we managed a change of the appointed Welfare Officer with Sue Marks having to step down due to ongoing family commitments. The hand over was managed in a staged approach with Jennifer now carrying out the role in its entirety.
The role of Welfare Officer is to understand the needs of players, parents and coaches/managers and to give advice and support when required and in this role Jennifer has proved to be more than competent.

This season we have continued to provide and fund training to all junior section managers/coaches via the FAW Trust training program and have increased the coaching standards throughout the section with managers/coaches attending and passing courses as listed:

Level 1
· F.A.W Leaders Award     - 3 coaches
· First Aid for Football awareness Award  - 15 coaches
· McDonalds Coaching Workshops   - 5 coaches

Level 2
· FAW/UEFA ‘C’ Certificate    - 3 coaches
· FAW/UEFA ‘C’ Certificate GK    - 1 coaches

Note

Level 1 courses are held in the evenings (minimum of four hours) or on Sundays (leaders award) normally over two weeks with a minimum attendance of twelve hours. This is on top of the time already committed to running a team.

Level 2 Goal Keepers ‘C’ Certificate require a minimum of three days at eight hours per day and the outfield  ‘C’ Certificate having a minimum of six days at eight hours per day.

Notable Achievements

As part of our goal of quality and excellence in sport we have maintained our club accreditation standard working closely with the area Football Development officer Grant Kalahar. As a club we have actively supported the expansion of football for girls with two of our section managers Andrew Davies as imitative organizer and Gino Esposito worked closely with Grant (FAW Trust) setting up a Girls turn up and play to increase the awareness and availability of girls football in the area.
Andrew is also heading up for Grant and the FAW Trust a priority club Goalkeeper specific training held at Bryn Y Don on Monday evenings. This has led to the FAW part sponsoring Andrew on an FAW/UEFA ‘B’ Certificate for the forthcoming season.

We are also actively supporting the Vale Football Academy, which is set up and run by The FAW Trust  with 3 of our ‘C’ licensed coaches Andrew Davies, Giles Simpson and Kelvin Thomas appointed as age band organizers.

Our achievements on the field were the most rewarding with:

Junior Boys - Vale of Glamorgan League, the Under 14’s and U15A’s finishing as league and League Cup Winners completing a double/double for the club

Junior Girls – South Wales Girls League, The U18’s won their league, and completed their progression through the junior section with a number of the girls having started with the club at mini football level. To emulate the Clubman tradition in the boys section and the annual shield presented to a player in the U16/17 team, we felt that an annual shield should be presented to the oldest age team each year in the girls section. It was proposed that a shield should be provided and on a request to Frank Martin and family we were pleased to present this year The Frank Martin Shield to a player in the girls section ‘’who has been with the Club from the beginning of her football career and has shown qualities expected of her throughout’’

Can I also congratulate the following players on their achievements

Dinas Powys Football Club  brought the curtain down on a marvellously successful season throughout the Club, in both Junior Boys and Girls Sections, as well as Youth and Seniors, with a recently held Soccer School in half term.

Attracting more than forty local boys and girls, some who already play for local clubs and schools and some who just play with friends, teams represented on the day included Dinas Wolves & Lions,  Dinas Girls, Six Bells, Inter Penarth, and Porthkerry Panthers to name just a few.

With the weather amazing, the coaches made sure the children took  on plenty of fluids during the regular breaks, as well as topping up with sun cream ! A special thanks must go to Jan Cunningham who did so much hard work behind the scenes throughout the day, making sure the children were all looked after.

The day started with a chat and introductions followed by a nice warm up, then skills sessions and some speed/agility and quickness training. During lunch the kids had a quiz with the girls team winning hands down. In the afternoon the players got to show off their talents in a mini world cup, played on the freshly cut Welsh League Murchfield pitch, which looked as good as it's looked all season!

Here are just a few quotes from the children after the afternoon presentation, where every child had at least one prize, as a memento of a fantastic fun filled day ;-
Sebastian Kenefick ;- " It was the best soccer school I have been on, mum !" Finley Samad;- " I scored a great goal, - when is the next camp?" Rubean Fifield;- "It was great fun - I want to do the next one !"

With many thanks going to a top quality coaching team on the day, of Phil Clay, Kelvin Thomas, Dave Penikett, Stephen Provis and Lee Saunders, which includes UEFA qualified coaches, as well as Welsh League First Team players, and with over 100 years football experience between them - and though it it felt like it in the heat, it looked like the coaches enjoyed it as much as the children !

As a result of the tremendous popularity of the day, Dinas Powys FC plan to run further school's in the summer holidays for children aged between 6-11.T o register your child now please email Lcf123@hotmail.co.uk or phone 07736368353 for details.
